Jujubes are one of my favorite fruits because they have a unique taste and texture. When I was a kid, as I grew up, I ate them all the time because they were our apples and they grow in dry conditions.

Jujube's are first green colored fruits

and then they ripen and they become like bright, brownish red and inside is the seed and the fruit is very crispy and crunchy and afterwards it become very, very soft and mushy.
This fruit is great for summer and in the summer it takes the summer heat and then calms down the gut. See, always Ayurveda looks at what helps the gut, right? So this is one of the fruits that comes in summer, best suited for summer heat. And then it is also a heart tonic.

I think it can be the poor man's superfood and it is really good. In Chinese medicine, it's called Dazao, which is a great in tonic and then a heart nourishing, blood building fruit, according to Chinese medicine.

We call this as Zizifus, Zizibus jujube, that's what it's called. And it is a wonderful fruit. It has a good source of glutamine in it, or potassium in large amounts.

More than anything, the mucilage, the soft jelly-like thing inside is very replenishing for the gut. Discovering the Delights of Jujubes: A Nutritious and Versatile Summer Fruit.
