Black Pepper Powder Morphology
Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) belongs to the Piperaceae family. The plant is native to the Malabar coast of India, along with a few other Asian countries. It is a perennial climbing vine that can grow up to 10 meters long.
It has simple dark green leaves which are arranged alternately, have a leathery texture and an oval shape. The black pepper itself comes from the fruit of this plant, which is an oval drupe with green, unripe peppercorns that turn red as they ripen.
The peppercorns are picked when unripe and are later boiled and sun-dried till they turn black. The plant has light green bisexual flowers along the spine.
